Spyware removal programs are designed to locate and remove any spyware that has managed to intrude into your computer system. You may think that your firewall and email virus protection are all you need to stop it intruding in the first place, and in a perfect world it would be, but this is real life and nothing is perfect. Spyware is clever, that’s why we all need spyware removal programs.

The way that spyware removal programs work is to scan every file on your computer and try to identify any malicious spyware that may be there. It does this through the file definitions, which you must keep up to date by downloading the latest ones regularly. If it finds a match, it highlights the suspected spyware and gives you the option of removing it or leaving it where it is.

Spyware removal programs, like firewalls and virus protection programs are not perfect. One program will remove maybe 80% of the spyware on your computer. Another of the spyware removal programs will also remove 80% perhaps, but not the same 80% as the first one. Using this difference in performance we can use several spyware removal programs to our advantage.

The best way to use spyware removal programs is like this:

  • Scan the computer with the first of the spyware removal programs.
  • Delete any spyware it finds.
  • Re-boot your computer.
  • Re-scan the computer and delete whatever it finds (if anything).
  • Do this until the software reports the computer as being clean.

You should repeat this procedure with every one of the spyware removal programs you have installed on your system. In practice, two or three different spyware removal programs are all you really need. Between them they should eliminate 99% or higher of all the malicious spyware on your computer, unless you have been infected particularly badly.

Of course, this is not a do-it-once-and-forget-forever type of operation. You will have to repeat this procedure at least once a week. If you are really diligent you can do it twice a week, but more often than that is probably a bit of overkill. Some would recommend running spyware removal programs only once a month, but that is probably not enough. Aim for at least once a week and you should be fine.

It’s a sad fact that we need spyware removal programs in the first place. But the online world has long since lost its innocence. People exist who will do anything to make money and they don’t care who gets hurt. People get very badly hurt online every day. Lives are ruined and all because they didn’t have adequate spyware removal programs in place to monitor the situation.

Most people seeking the best spyware removal programs usually opt for the well-known brands. They bypass the free ones reasoning that they can’t possibly be good enough. This is where they often go wrong. Never go by big brand status. That’s not to say that the big brands don’t deliver. They do.

However, it’s always best to go by performance. Find a review site that can give you performance figures and choose the ones that perform best, whether or not they are big brands or free. It’s your computer you are trying to protect after all.
